Taking the plunge (and a pledge)

{photo from weheartit via flickr}

During my 30 for 30 journey in February, I did not shop for one month. And by shop I mean spend money on things for my wardrobe. (I obviously needed groceries, toiletries and the like.) Inspired by Kellianne of STOPSHOP, who gave up shopping for a year, I'm kicking it up a notch and not shopping at all during May or June. (The word "shop" was used five -- well, now six -- times in this paragraph.)

Why am I doing this? a) I need the money for, you know, car payments and stuff. b) I have plenty of clothes to be thankful for. Think of this as another 30 for 30, but instead of choosing 30 items, I'm using my entire wardrobe. Inventory coming soon.

  2. Good for you! I look forward to seeing you remix your already fabulous closet. Before I moved to Mexico, I shopped constantly and I'm shocked and proud to say that I've made it almost nine months without shopping (except for once on a visa run to Portland). Of course, wearing a bikini 99% of the time makes that easy, doesn't it? :)

  5. WOW... I am impressed. I don't shop a TON, but I like to be able to get something when I *REALLY* need/ want it.

    But I am excited to see the results!!

  6. hah, i went on an accidental shopping ban it seems, haven't bought any clothes since the first weekend in April, and that was a pair of pants to replace a pair that split open while I walked around a mall. That said good luck! I desperately need to upgrade my wardrobe as I'm going to professional school next year, and don't own a single proper fitting blazer or dress pants.

  8. I think this is an excellent idea. I've been thinking about how we need to make fashion relevent beyond point blank consumerism. this is a great re-set button to do so. Good luck, Steph!

  9. Ok...I've been thinking of doing this for a while now and maybe I should just take the damn plunge. It's really inspiring to see bloggers do this and you all are inching me along to go on the ban! I totally want stop wanting things...I have a closet full of great things and no reason to want for more. Ok, definitely closer now.
