On Why I Blog

Whenever I tell someone that my dream is to be a full-time blogger, I'm asked one or more of the following questions: What's a blog? What do you blog about? Why do you blog?

I love having to talk about these things because in my day-to-day life, I rarely think about why I do what I do. Blogging has become such a big part of my life that it's second nature! I don't analyze it, and I do it because it makes me happy. But deep down, it's more than that...

Quite simply, a blog is a website. Currently, there are 176 million blogs on the internet. Each of these blogs has its own focus and topic and reasons for being. Each blogger is unique and special! I believe that everyone has something to offer to the world. And that's why I do what I do: I have a tremendous passion for people. I love writing and photography and food and fashion, but I love YOU more.

Of course, I'm not perfect. I make mistakes. I've hurt people... I slip up and lose sight of my life's goal. I can be brash, stubborn, sarcastic and angry! If you're reading this and I've hurt you, then I'm sorry, from the bottom of my heart. I try to be the best friend that I can every day, but I'm still human and I hope you'll forgive me.

There are many misconceptions about bloggers, and style bloggers especially. We must be stuck-up and conceited if we're posting photos of ourselves, right? I must think I'm really great and want to show off. Well, that's not necessarily true! I'm not speaking for everyone here, but at least for me... I blog because I want to make people smile. I might post outfits that I think are cute, but that's because I want to inspire you. I want everyone who enters my little world to leave feeling more positive and happy than they did when they arrived. This is what I strive for, each and every day.

"I hope that the worlds turns, and that things get better. But what I hope most of all is that you understand what I mean when I tell you that, even though I do not know you, and even though I may never meet you, laugh with you, cry with you, or kiss you, I love you. With all my heart, I love you." -V for Vendetta

  4. Great post!! :) That misconception that style bloggers are narcissistic bugs me too.. I started doing it as a way to build up my confidence because I was so insecure and I know a lot of other girls have done it for the same reason :)

  6. Love this! Yes, I was just at a family function the other day and had to explain what blogging is. Bloggers are totally not stuck up. I actually find them to be one of the coolest and most giving women I've ever come across!

  9. Hi Stephanie,

Thank you for your comment on Hits And Fits!

I like your post re why you blog. It's funny how meaningful it can be to those of us who do it - yet how flippant it seems to people on the outside.

In addition to the personal rewards of it, I also love the community! My blog has allowed me to meet and learn about all sorts of people with similar interests, including you!
