Visiting LA? Hit these spots! (Part One)

I recently updated my ABOUT, FAQ & SPONSOR pages. One popular question I receive is along the lines of, "I'm visiting LA -- what do you suggest I do?" This is a pretty huge question so I thought it deserved its own special post! In fact, I'm going to make this a regular series -- perhaps seasonally or even monthly. Though I write about the fun things I do around here all the time, I'm sure it's easier for everyone if I sum up a few of my favorites. So, here's your first batch of things to add to your 'must-see' list! More to come...

The Getty / The Observatory
Visit The Getty Museum for gorgeous gardens and seasonal art exhibits at $15 per car. Head to The Griffith Observatory for all things related to astronomy and the sky, completely free. Both have spectacular views of the city! (Outfit photos, anyone?)

Seven Grand / Bottega Louie / Varnish / The Edison
A fun little walking tour of some of my favorite places downtown... Have a whiskey tasting at Seven Grand, get pasta & macaroons at Bottega Louie, sip a speakeasy-style beverage at Varnish, and end your night dancing to old-fashioned swing at The Edison!

Santa Monica / Santa Barbara
Hang out at the beach in Santa Monica, people-watch on the pier, and shop at Third Street Promenade. For something more low-key, head north to Santa Barbara for the day and go wine tasting!

Hollywood Blvd / Melrose Ave
You gotta do the tourist thing and visit the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard, taking photos with your favorite 'stars.' Then shop on Melrose Avenue a few streets away -- it's a hipster haven for vintage stores and indie designers.

Chez Nous / The Griddle
If you know me, you know breakfast is my favorite meal. And if you're going to splurge on anything while you're here, splurge on food! Chez Nous boasts delicious omelets & croissants, while The Griddle Cafe is known for massive pancakes in all sorts of flavors. Enjoy!

  1. I love the Getty (and LACMA and the Huntington) - when I was living in LA a few years back and doing dissertation research at the Huntington I had a friend who worked at the Getty and so I'd visit her constantly there - such a great place!

  3. People watching on Venice Beach and on the Boardwalk took up a big chunk of my time when I visited LA a few years ago. The Walk of Fame is definitely something one HAS to do when in LA along with Grauman's Chinese Theatre. The pier is also one of those places that is simply iconic. I would love to try some of these food places whenever I make it back out there.
    Hoping for this summer!

  5. Love this post - I live in San Diego and rarely venture up to L.A. Now when I do, I will know where to stop :). Found your blog via Kaelah's blog - love it!
