Last year, a very good friend of mine wrote a comedy bit in which he'd be wearing blackface. I'm not going to mention him by name 'cause I'm not like that, but I told him that if he went though with recording it, I'd never speak to him again. He said he didn't understand why it was offensive, but I don't think you need to understand it to just not do it; I will never understand the racial discrimination that black men endure.
Anyway, we're no longer friends.
I don't know about you, but I'm really sick of all the racist shit floating around the interwebz. Maybe it's because I'm in an interracial relationship and have friends of all races so I pay attention more than the average white girl. Or, maybe I've been really naive up until this point and I'm just noticing it now. But, seriously, it needs to stop. There's no reason for it. Just don't be an asshole.
It really shouldn't be that hard for the following 8 people (who are not black) to not use the n-word:
Girl on bottom right is 11. I'm glad someone commented on that.
And Trayvon Martin jokes will never be funny, but at least he's not painting his face black and dressing up like him à la Halloween 2013. Ugh...
But before anyone jumps down my throat for this (again) I think it's perfectly acceptable to dress up as someone of another race as long as you're doing it honorably. Anyone who knows me knows I wouldn't make fun of black people for being black. Like, really? T BABY rules because she recorded a terrible song and worse video that has almost 8 million views. (Sidebar: My sister was Beyonce last year and it was awesome. She played a show in which she covered her hits, dance moves and all. She didn't wear dark makeup; neither would I. Just because we grew up in a white Catholic town doesn't mean we're ignorant.)
Of course, this white woman has no problem displaying her distaste for white men and black women. If anyone thinks this is okay, funny, or "not a big deal" I'd like you to explain please. Here's my email.
On the other side of the spectrum, people of all races like to poke fun at white women who date black men, and especially those who have beautiful mixed babies. Yep, I definitely look like these girls.
A Caucasian woman with an African-American boyfriend commented on the top left stating how wrong it was. The comment was promptly deleted.
It's times like these when I really want to give the world a big hug. Or a punch in the face.
