Loud Lady of the Month: Interview with Jessica Lawson (Sailor, Adventurer & Creative-Type)
1. Please start by telling us a little bit about yourself, your blog and your job!
I'm Jess. An INFP according to the Myers-Briggs personality test. I probably eat more than anyone you've ever met, I'm very active and social, but I need some alone time or I'll start to go crazy. My blog is my journal of sorts and a way for me to record my memories and force me to be creative. All I will say about my job is that I'm a Jess of all trades: project manager, resource manager, human resources, counselor, mentor, leader, communications specialist, administrator, and trainer.
2. Can you tell us what your favorite things are about your part of San Diego, and what we can expect if we visit you someday?
I'm glad you asked. It's not as crowded as LA (and I'm from LA), every part of the city is close to the beach, and new places to see and eat at always pop up! If you happen to visit me someday, be prepared to explore and eat a lot of food! But I'm also down for hanging out at home with some wine and popcorn and watching marathons of Scandal, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, Catfish, Walking Dead, etcetera, or movies. Oh, and we can order some pizza for delivery too -- preferably Artisan pizzas by Dominos!
3. Do you have any tips for your fellow bloggers? What are your fave cameras, supplies and equipment to use for your projects?
I'm not one to give blogging advice, but if I have to provide a tip it would be to just "be real" and remember that unless you're speaking about science, your opinion is just that: an opinion and everyone is going to have their own opinions. You might need some thick skin. As far as my favorite camera(s) goes, I currently only use my iPhone 6 because it's lighter and discreet. I used to carry my Olympus Pen EP-3 around with me a lot, but now I save it for special occasions or when I'm going out strictly for taking photos. My husband also got me a GoPro for my birthday and that goes with me whenever I get into the water. :)
4. What are your other hobbies and passions outside of blogging?
Where do I stop? Paddle-boarding, kayaking, hiking, reading, writing, Project Life, obsessively decorating my Filofax organizers, taking photos, researching stupid stuff... is eating a hobby? Dogs. I LOVE dogs; I have three of them and they are my children. So yes, I happen to have three children with four legs each.
5. What are your future plans in business and in life?
Ahh, future plans in business and life? Well, retire after 20 years in the Navy. If I don't already have my masters degree by then, I'll work on my masters in psychology or counseling. If I do have my masters, then maybe I'll work on my doctorate. Or I can get a job in communications or information technology. I definitely know I'm going to take a little bit of time off and sit at home in my underwear and watch TV and sleep in. I also want to do a road trip across America preferably with my husband and maybe even our dogs. The possibilities are endless...
6. What's your favorite thing about the internet world? What's your biggest challenge?
My favorite thing in the internet world has to be that all the knowledge is at my fingertips, and my biggest challenge with that is that I need to filter through all the crap and keep what I really need and avoid what I consider to be clutter.
7. What's your personal philosophy or belief system?
Treat people how you want to be treated. I struggle with how I believe in God or a Supreme Being and I mostly have a hard time with organized religion.
8. What do you love most about being part of the Loud Ladies community?
First off, the Loud Ladies are all different and awesome in their own ways! I also love that we are very supportive of each other.
9. What's the most important lesson you've ever learned in life?
There are many important lessons I've learned, and I would sound like someone's mother if I started listing them all. If you're that curious, you can email me; I'll tell you. ;)
10. What song do we all need to listen to... right now!?
Well, this song is still fresh in my mind from last night's concert: "Breathing Underwater" by Metric. Lead vocalist Emily Haines is amazing, and she left me with this quote for the evening: "Whoever has the most fun wins, so don't lose." Well said, Emily. Well said.
